It’s the most common question that we get asked her at Solargen Energy, and for good reason. Savvy homeowners want to know that when they invest their hard earned money, that money will continue working for them. They want to know if solar panels are a profitable long term investment that will help them to save money for years to come – and the answer is yes!

So what makes solar panels such a good investment? There are several reasons people choose to invest, but the most obvious is energy price security. After energy price rises increased peoples bills by an average of 54% in 2022, there was a revived interest in solar panel installations that led to an industry boom, bringing more efficient and innovative solar technologies to the market than ever before. Many homeowners took advantage of this technology to reduce their bills, and to protect them from further energy market fluctuations for decades to come. Last year was a record breaking year for solar panel installations, with more than 183,000 new installations being registered in 2023 alone.

The financial payback is clear to see, with the majority of properties recouping the costs of their installation within 6-7 years, and continuing to reap the benefits for long after – especially as energy prices continue to increase globally. When you invest in solar panels, you have a physical product generating income in the form of your own energy every day. Furthermore, unlike traditional investments, with 10 year manufacturer guarantees on your solar panel system that income is protected, year after year.

With increasing global instability and energy costs fluctuating more than ever in recent years, reducing your energy costs is more desirable than ever. But solar panels don’t just offer a good financial investment – they are also good for the future of the planet, the environment, and our families for generations to come.

The solar PV industry has come on leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, with ever more efficient and affordable technologies (and we would know- we have been established since 2010 and are one of Lancashires longest running solar PV installers), and this investment in green, clean energy is helping to reduce our carbon emissions. A 6kw solar panel system will save roughly 2,000kg of CO2 each year, and whilst there is a carbon footprint attached to the manufacturing and installation of a solar panel system, this can become carbon neutral and offset the footprint within as little as one year. Surprisingly, solar panels reduce CO2 emissions more per acre than planting trees!

Solar panels are also a smart investment if you are a pioneer of other green technologies, such as electric vehicles. You can link your solar panel inverter to your electric car charger, and take advantage of the smart tariffs available from energy suppliers to charge and discharge from your battery using overnight low cost tariffs to reduce your bills even further, and sell energy back to the grid at a profit.

So as you can see, solar panel systems are a reliable, environmentally friendly and easy way to invest in both your property and the planet whilst feeling the benefit for years to come. Here at Solargen Energy Ltd, we have a friendly team on hand to answer any of your questions regarding solar panels. We can provide a free proposal detailing how a solar panel system could benefit your individual property, taking into account roof space, orientation, and pitch, and your energy costs and usage. So give us a call on 0800 1123 571 to discuss taking the next steps on your solar panel journey!

We’ve come across all sorts of questions about solar panel installations…

Trust us, the only stupid questions are the ones you DON’T ask! Here, our team have picked out the 10 most common questions and don’t worry, we’ve answered them for you.

What Is Solar Energy?

Solar energy is the energy we can get from the sun.

What are the benefits of solar energy?

Solar energy is environmentally friendly

The energy of the sun can light homes, heat water & generate electricity

Harnessing solar energy takes little maintenance & easy installation

Solar energy is renewable

What are the cons of solar energy?

Solar technologies cannot be used during the night

The amount of power generated does depend on location, time & weather

Can you run out of solar energy?

In short – no. The sun is pretty much to most abundant source of energy available on the planet. In fact, did you know that just ONE HOUR’S worth of energy from the sun could power the earth for an entire year? That’s a lot of energy. However, it’s harnessing it all that’s the trick and we can only manage (at the moment) to get 0.0001% of it!

Is solar energy renewable?

The energy we get from the sun occurs naturally, therefore it can be replenished over time, which DOES make it a renewable energy source. Good news right? Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, won’t last forever because they are non-renewable. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so it’s vital for people around the globe to seek out new ways to use more renewable energy sources, just like solar power.

Are solar energy and solar power the same thing?

Solar energy needs to be TRANSFORMED into solar power so that it can be used for heating and electricity. To do so, you could use either a direct method (also known as photovoltaic or ‘PV’) where solar panels are used to convert energy into power, or an indirect method where solar thermal collectors are used to covert the energy.

Is solar energy safe to produce?

Converting solar energy is, you’ll be pleased to know, risk-free. PV Panels are made from silicon, so there is no risk of toxins, fumes or other dangerous hazards. As a result, this makes solar energy the SAFEST renewable energy source. Win win!

How expensive is it to use solar power?

Maintenance requirements for solar energy systems, such as PV panels, are very low because solar panels have no running parts and they can last up to 35 years. Apart from the initial installation, the power generation process is completely free.

Do solar panels affect global warming at all?

As with the actual panels themselves, converting solar energy to power carries very little risks – no carbon dioxide, no toxins, and even the production of systems – although associated with some emissions – are far, far less significant than others in the energy sector as a whole.

Can everyone use solar energy?

Solar energy is great for remote areas that don’t have access to an energy grid. However, as discussed, the amount of power generated does depend on location, time & weather.

So there you have it, questions answered! If you would like to know more about solar panel installations and why they might be the right choice for you, please contact us and we’d be more than happy to discuss your solar energy requirements.

However, did you know just how much is going on around the world to maximise renewable energy sources? We’re doing our bit by introducing solar panel installations across the North West but we guess you already knew that. So, without further ado, here are some things we’re fairly certain you didn’t know…

In Iowa and Wisconsin, biomass energy from dairy farms is being used to make electricity

Almost ½ of the renewable energy in the USA comes from biomass, such as paper

20% of the UK population live in areas suitable from geothermal heating

In 2014, China built at least 2 wind turbines per day

By 2050, Europe and North America could run on 100% renewable energy

Sunlight takes a little over 8 minutes to reach Earth and a few seconds longer to make contact with solar panels

The power generated by 1 wind turbine is enough to power 1,400 households

The energy used to make 10 Google searches is enough to power a 60-watt light bulb

48 people riding bikes for 24 hours can generate enough electricity to run a TV for a week

An estimated 15 trillion watts of power are used across the world

Water is the most common source of renewable energy and provides enough power for 28,000,000 people

If it could be properly harnessed, enough sunlight falls on the Earth in just one hour to meet the world energy demands for a whole year

The 5 main forms of renewable energy are: solar, wind, water, biofuel and geothermal

Solar power is one of the cleanest, most sustainable, and most renewable resources in the world

In 2012, Mexico handed out 23,000,000 free light bulbs

If you’re looking to upgrade your home, there’s no better place to begin than by switching to solar power. Renewable energy is on the up in Britain as thousands of homeowners turn their back on fossil fuels in a bid to save the planet, but when it comes to picking the right energy system provider, it can be tough to know which one offers the most for you. In the case of a Solargen solar power energy system, all the benefits are in the name. Hidden behind each letter of our moniker – SOLARGEN – is an advantage for your home. Just see for yourself…

S – Simple Setup

Contrary to popular belief, solar panel installation is actually an extremely simple process – all you need is the right team to perform it. Our band of professional workmen can set up your Solargen system in four simple steps: surveying your property, providing a quote, fitting the panels, and conducing a final safety check. The installation of the panels themselves rarely takes longer than a day to complete and can be performed with minimal disruption. In most cases, your Solargen system can be set up in less than 48 hours. Simple.

O – Overall Increase In Property Value

Solar panels have the ability to increase the value of your property, meaning you can make a profit on your home should you ever decide to sell it on. Any home with a built-in solar energy systems offers homebuyers a great incentive because it gives them the opportunity to save money on their energy bills and even profit from selling excess energy back to the National Grid in the future. Solargen systems are also designed to the highest possible standard and can actually enhance the appearance of a property in a modern world where people are constantly on the lookout for “green” buildings. Studies have shown that buyers are willing to pay more for a home with solar panels already fitted, so if you’re planning on selling your home a few years down the line, a Solargen system could prove to be a worthy investment.

L – Low Maintenance

The beauty of solar panels is that they do not demand constant attention. After the initial installation, they require minimal upkeep and often function all year round without any real difficulties. All the panels used by Solargen are of an exceptionally high quality – resilient, strong and resistant to wear and tear. The inverters (the mechanisms on panels that actually convert solar energy into electricity and heat that your home can use) on our systems also come with a Five Year Warranty as standard, meaning any repairs conducted in this time period will be completely free of charge. Solargen systems are also built with durability in mind and can operate effectively at full capacity for decades without regular maintenance being required.

A – Avoid Electricity Price Surges

Relying on solar energy to power your home also protects your property from any sudden electricity price surges that can see energy bills skyrocket. Whilst the cost of electricity is always subject to change, you can’t put a price on sunshine, and utilising solar energy can help you save hundreds of pounds on your energy bills in the long run.

Having a Solargen system in place is ultimately one of the best ways to make your home as cost-efficient as possible.

R – Revenue

Did you know that utilising solar energy can actually make you money?
The UK government’s Feed-In Tariff scheme awards homeowners who generate their own electricity through use of renewable energy power systems by paying them a standard rate. These payment rates are under regular reassessment, with the latest figures available here.

Currently, the government’s Feed-In Tariff pays homeowners for generating solar energy twenty years from the point at which they first install their solar panels. Two decades’ worth of solar energy production may lead you to a tidy profit.

G – Give To The Grid

If the solar panels on your roof generate more electricity than you need to power your home, you can actually sell this excess electricity back to the power grid. Not only does this help the National Grid continue their work in supplying buildings and locations all over the country with power, it also allows you to rake in some extra pocket money on any of the power you do not use yourself.

With a Solargen system and a bit of guidance from our knowledgeable team, you can turn your household into a profit-generating machine.

E – Environmentally Friendly

Another key benefit of having a Solargen system in place is the fact that you will instantly become more environmentally friendly.

Lowering your carbon footprint is more important than ever these days. By utilising solar power, you are doing your bit for Mother Earth and actively contributing to the mission to save the planet – creating an increased amount of jobs in the solar energy sector in the process.

It may sound a little dramatic, but it’s true. The more people who utilise renewable energy and have Solargen systems in place, the longer Earth will be a safe place to live.

N – New and Modern Energy Era

By investing in a Solargen system, you are readily embracing a new era in UK energy. Solar power has now eclipsed coal as a major generator of the country’s electricity, demonstrating the rising awareness in climate change concern and a national desire to turn green.

By utilising solar energy today, you can become a part of this exciting new era for Britain and ensure you receive maximum benefits in return from the energy grid. Solar energy is the future, and by installing a Solargen system you can avoid being a homeowner who’s left behind using archaic, cost-draining forms of energy production.
